Scales are a vital part of every industry that buys and sells bulk materials. Most scale problems are generated from the power grid itself, whether it is a lightning induced surge or power surges created by power going "on" and "off" during a storm or other power anomalies generated within the facility itself.

The most volatile part of a truck scale, rail scale or tower scale are the load cells. These cells are physically protected by a well grounded, steel canister that houses the electronics. Lightning will seldom do damage from the outside. The path that this electrical surge will take when a hit is nearby will be direct to ground. This is good until it finds its way onto your ground grid and backs into your facility. The Silent Slave will eliminate this threat, the bidirectional gating will not allow it onto the interior ground grid. Once a surge does get into the interior it will find a path to ground, however, it will most generally be through your more sensitive electronics. One of the more susceptible areas will be the scale. Entering the scale head or main scale unit the surge will easily jump to the low voltage lines going to load cells. Once it is on this line it will take out one or several of the load cells.
